Marriages at St. Paul's Church
Marriage holds a sacred place within the Anglican tradition, symbolizing the union of two individuals in the presence of God and their community. At St. Paul's Church, we welcome couples seeking to embark on this meaningful journey together.
Residence Requirement and Qualifying Connections:
There is typically a residence requirement for marriage in any Anglican Church. Parishioners residing within the parish boundaries or listed on the church electoral roll have the automatic right to marry at St. Paul's (with exceptions for those previously divorced*). Additionally, individuals with a qualifying connection to the parish are entitled to marry here. Qualifying connections may include baptism or confirmation in the parish, residence or habitual attendance at public worship for at least 6 months, or familial ties such as a parent's residence or marriage in the parish.
Traditional Church Weddings:
Couples marrying at St. Paul's can expect a "traditional church wedding" characterized by spiritual solemnity and joy within the Christian tradition. While there's limited flexibility for specific requests like music choices, the service typically follows established Anglican rites. Please note that requests involving animals, unusual additions, or personalized vows may not be accommodated.
Banns and Special Licences:
Banns, announcing the forthcoming marriage, are read in the church where the wedding will occur and in the parishes where each party resides. For couples residing overseas, marriage may require a common or Special Licence, a topic best discussed with the Vicar.
Blessing and Dedication after Civil Marriage:
For couples with one or both partners having had a previous marriage, St. Paul's offers Blessing and Dedication after Civil Marriage as an alternative option.
We are committed to ensuring that your wedding ceremony at St. Paul's Church is a memorable and meaningful occasion. For further details or inquiries, please contact the Vicar.
*Please note: Exceptions may apply for couples with prior divorces.
