About St Pauls
Welcome to St. Paul's Monk Bretton
Welcome to St. Paul's Monk Bretton, a cherished landmark nestled in the heart of Barnsley. Our journey traces back to 1838 when the foundation stone for our first village church was laid on a site generously donated by Sir George Wombwell. Over the years, St. Paul's has evolved into a vibrant hub of faith, community, and heritage, serving as a beacon of hope and spiritual nourishment for generations.

Our Rich Heritage
The history of St. Paul's is woven into the fabric of Monk Bretton's story. From its humble beginnings to the grandeur of our present church, each brick and beam tells a tale of resilience, devotion, and unwavering faith. Our current church, a magnificent structure built in the late Decorated style by Luigi and Solaini of Liverpool in 1878, stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of our forebearers.
